Lately I’ve been loving the whole boho feel. I’m usually one to keep it simple and minimal, but the maxi skirts, the stacked accessories, the messy hair and the casual yet put together look is what I’ve been gravitating to a lot off late.
Now some of you may ask what Boho means – Boho stands for Bohemian which conveys an attitude and style that describes a free-spirited, independent frame of mind. The look? It’s inspired by the Late 60’s early 70’s fashion– less mod, more hippie
You want to find out if your style is bohemian? Ask yourself if you are drawn towards florals, prints, earthy tones like brown, green, beige, especially white but yet splashed with bright colors like orange, neon, pink etc. Are you drawn towards comfort and edge or simple elegance?
Some elements that are conventionally a part of boho-chic looks are;
Colors : Earthy; like white, beige, green, brown
Accessories : A big aspect of a boho look is in the details – large earrings, stacked bangles, layered necklaces, studded bags and shoes, headbands, belts, wooden bangles, ethnic jewelry etc
Clothes – these are usually baggy and comfortable. For ex, flowy skirts, oversized shirts, tunics and blouses. However, when you are putting together a boho look for yourself think about your body type and what kind of clothes look good on you. If you are the skinny types, then throwing on something baggy can add some volume to your frame, but if you are on the curvier side, remember that your curves need that definition and drowning yourself in oversized clothes will just look like a mess. You can try to mix one baggy piece in your wardrobe with one structured piece, like your shorts, or skinny jeans with a flowy blouse, or a loose shirt.
Shoes : My favorite part. Go big on thong sandals, flats and gladiators. Find them in neutral colors or go bright with embellishments and prints!
Some essentials for a boho wardrobe are : floral or printed tunics, emroidered tops, maxi skirts, bright and printed maxi dresses, bags and thong sandals in neutral colors like tan or brown, scarves and ethnic jewelry pieces!
Keep in mind : You are already making a statement with your clothes and accessories. Keep the rest of your look simple, plain and understated. Try something fun with your hair like braids, or leave it loose in natural waves or curls.
For my take on a boho look : I took my favorite coral pleated maxi skirt out again and this time added a simple white tee and threw over a denim shirt to add a light layer and create a contrast. To add that whimsical aspect to my look, I threw on my latest love, this coin/trinket tribal necklace and finished the look off with these ethnic drop earrings. I’d like to think of this as an Indian take on the boho-chic look. If you were to replace the denim shirt with a colorful vest, you can wear this to a simple shaadi event as well!
